Farewell 2011
2011 has come and gone and although the rest of the world seem to be going through some much turmoil from financial crises
to natural disasters, we thank God that our family is still in good health, are all safe and sound, and have had another
year to spend time together and make more fond memories. As always we brought in the new year together, this year down in
San Diego with family and friends. We continued to celebrate special occasions throughout the year celebrating Carole's
Birthday on the Vegas Strip, Ron's Birthday watching the Pacquiao-Mosley Fight, Nico's Birthday at the Fukuburger Truck,
Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday, Mama Pearlie and Papa Rollie's Birthdays and Anniversary, and Nevaeh's 6th Birthday. 2011 was
also a milestone year for Nevaeh as she started Kindergarten this year.
This year we were able to take time off but didn't
take any big trips but instead made several trips back
and forth from San Diego to Las Vegas or took several
staycations. Staycations in Las Vegas were taken at
the Aria Resort and the South Point Hotel as well as
staycations at Lake Las Vegas at both the Ravella Resort
and Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort and at the The Resort on Mount Charleston. The girls spent another summer
in San Diego visiting the San Diego County Fair, Sea
World, and especially the beach. We also took time to
support our favorite sports teams and athletes as this
year we made our annual family trip to Petco Park to
watch the San Diego Padres and also to Qualcomm Stadium
to watch the San Diego Chargers. And as always we supported
our Filipino fighters in Las Vegas watching Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire knockout former champion Fernando
"KO-Chulito" Montiel in the second round and attended
both weigh-in events to support the "Pound for Pound"
champion Manny Pacquiao as he fought and defeated both
Sugar Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez this year.
Throughout the year we continued to make time go out family outings from time to time. This year Nevaeh got to go to the
circus for the first time. Concerts and show we attended this year were The Platters, Matsuri, Recycled Percussions, Nick
Cannon, Jake Shimabukuro, Brian McKnight, The Go-Go's, Barry Manilow, Smash Mouth, Frank Marino's DIVAS, Jabbawockeez,
The Magic and Tigers of Rick Thomas, MC Hammer, Smokey Robinson, Justin Timberlake and Friends, Lupe Fiasco, Janet Jackson,
and Cirque du Soliel's Michael Jackson - The Immortal Tour. This year Ron and Carole also started walking regularly and put
their walking towards a good cause and joined this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's event and raised $265.00.
As 2011 passes by we look forward to 2012 and creating more family memories. As stated in this anonymous quote,
“Don't just count the days but make the days count.” From our family to yours, we hope everyone as a great new year!

Michael Jackson - The Immortal World Tour
The music of the Jackson's has been playing in Poblete
Family household throughout three generations. Papa Rollie
still has somewhere in his old collection of 8 tracks
tapes of a few Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson albums. Ron
and Richelle grew up listening to and even watched the
Jackson 5 Saturday morning cartoons and the Jackson Family
Variety Show on television. Nico and Kiana grew up watching
all the King of Pop's music videos and concert videos
on DVD. And even after his death, Nevaeh knows most of
Michael Jackson's hits from watching the "This Is It"
DVD over and over again. So when Cirque du Soleil announced
that they were creating a touring tribute show on Michael
Jackson, there was no doubt this family would pass up
buying tickets to watch the show. So last Saturday on
opening night, Ron, Carole, Nico, Kiana, and Nevaeh headed
to the Mandalay Bay Event Center to watch the Las Vegas
premiere of "Michael Jackson - The Immortal World Tour"
as it stopped in town for a month long engagement.
"The Immortal World Tour" which continues it's tour
in 2012 in cities throughout the United States and other
countries is a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil
and the Estate of Michael Jackson to celebrate the life
and artistry of Michael Jackson. On this opening night,
a few of Michael's family members were present including
his children Prince, Paris, and Blanket, and brothers
Tito and Jackie. As they entered the arena the audience
stood up and clapped and cheered as they took their
seats. When the show started, five clown-like character
depicting five Michael Jackson
fans each wearing different MJ outfits took the stage
to open the show. The show does not have one solo Michael
Jackson
impersonator but rather captures the essence of the
King of Pop through multiple performers. From his music
and dancing as a Pop Star to his life growing up and
also as the humanitarian he was known for, the show
truly showcases the life of Michael through visuals,
dance, and music with amazing cirque-like acrobatic
performances and Michael Jackson-style choreography.
The show has a pretty extensive sampling of the Michael
Jackson’s better-known songs that takes you on a journey
of MJ's creative life from "Have You Seen My Childhood"
to "Smooth Criminal" to "Thriller" to "Man in the Mirror"
and much more. Visually you are taken from the fantasies
of Neverland to the 70's during the Jackson 5 era to
the military-like set from "They Don't Really Care About
Us" through the fantasic imagery of the videos and elaborate
costumes.
The whole production is amazing and the show is a must
see for all lifelong Michael Jackson fans. Those who
aren't as big of a fan will definitely be entertained
and will learn more of who the King of Pop was. After
the show Ron, Carole and the kids talked about their
favorite parts of the show and sang Michael Jackson
songs as they left the Mandalay Bay Resort. The Immortal
Tour will run in Las Vegas until December 27th and will
continue touring stopping at various cities throughout
North America. Check out all the photos from
last Saturday's opening night and if you can, go get
your tickets too see this amazing show for yourself
before it's sold out!

Janet Jackson Number Ones Concert
To continue Ron and Carole's 21st year wedding anniversary
weekend celebration, they had tickets to attend Janet
Jackson's concert in Las Vegas which was one of her stops
on her "Number Ones" tour. After their two day stay at
Mount Charleston (see blog entry below), they drove back
from the resort and met up with Carole's sister Lisa and
husband Jun who were also in town to watch the concert.
They headed to the Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and
Casino where the concert was to be held at The Colosseum.
Before the concert they hung out at the Forum Shops and
ate at the "Max Brenner Restaurant" which is famous for
their vast array of chocolate-based dishes that includes
chocolate waffles and crepes, fondues, ice creams, hot
chocolate drinks, smoothies and chocolate martinis. Ron
and Carole shared "The Classic European Chocolate Fondue
for Two" and Jun and Lisa shared the "Hazelnut Cream Banana
Waffles".
After satisfying their sweet tooth at Max Brenner they
proceeded to The Colosseum where they ran into cousins
Jay and Honeylette who were also attending the concert.
Once inside, the concert which was suppose to start
at 9PM ran alittle late and did not actually start until
9:45 PM. It was at that time when the lights went dark
and a clip from Janet's "Rhythem Nation" music video
played on the large video wall and screens to hype up
the audience. (On each stop of her tour, a song was
to be dedicated to that particular city. “Rhythm Nation,”
from the album "Rhythm Nation 1814" had been chosen
as the song dedicated to the city of Las Vegas.) After
the videoclip played the lights lit up and Janet along
with her backup band and dancers took the stage. Throughout
the concert she sang a selection of songs from her all
her number one hits. In between sets, videoclips were
shown from Janet's acting career such as TV hits Good
Times, Diff’rent Strokes and Fame and from her big screen
movies such as Poetic Justice, Nutty Professor II, and
Why Did I Get Married?. Janet also performed a virtual
duet of “Scream” with Michael as he appears on the screen
on the stage. She also mentioned that this Las Vegas
stop was special because it was where she began her
career when she was seven years old, joining the Jackson
family act onstage to do a Mae West impersonation in
a duet of “I Got You Babe” with her brother Randy. At
the end of the concert she thanked everyone for all
their support to her as well as to the entire Jackson
Family. It was an awesome night of music seeing and
hearing this music icon perform live.
To finally end Ron and Carole's anniversary weekend,
they had one last dinner out at "Texas de Brazil
Churrascaria" which is a Brazilian steakhouse that
combines the cuisine of Southern Brazil with the generous
spirit of Texas. The restaurant is famous for their
all-you-can-eat cuts of meats that are slow cooked in
an open flame grill. The salad bar area that is also
offered at the restaurant consist of a 50-60 seasonal
items that includes appetizers, soups, salads, and traditional
side items, like the house baked pão de queijo (Brazilian
cheese bread), banana frita (sweet fried bananas), etc.
Everyone receives a two-sided colored card: one side
is green as in "go", and the other side is red meaning
"stop". When one flips one's card to green, several
meat carvers pass from table to table slicing different
cuts of roasted beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and Brazilian
sausage from skewers onto one's plate. The dining experience
at Texas de Brazil is amazing and the food is awesome!

photos from the concert and from Ron and Carole's
anniversary dinner. (Also scroll down below to read
and see photos from their weekend getaway to Mt. Charleston.)

Mount Charleston Weekend Getaway
To celebrate 21 years of married bliss, Ron and Carole decided to escape for their anniversary from the big lights of
Las Vegas for some quiet time alone up in the Spring Mountain Range and Toiyabe National Forest to Mount Charleston. So they
drove 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas and checked in at "The Resort on Mount Charleston" to enjoy the cool mountain breezes,
fresh air and all-around scenic beauty of Mount Charleston. Built in the early 1980s, the Resort on Mount Charleston
underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and upgrade in 2005. From the outside the resort offers breathtaking views of
the surrounding Spring Mountains. The rustic chateau-style hotel also features a large pond out front by the entrance.
Inside the welcoming log cabin-like décor of the lobby area includes a large fireplace where guests can lounge around at.
The rooms at the resort are quite cozy and include all the amenities such as a hairdryer, coffee maker, iPod docking station,
alarm clock, flat screen television, heater/air conditioner, iron and ironing board and more. Ron and Carole upgraded to
a room on the third floor that included it's own private balcony that over looked the pond below and provided
spectacular mountain views. For dinner the hotel offers fine dining at "The Cut Above Restaurant" where Ron and Carole dined
at for dinner and also for breakfast. Located right by the hotel's lobby, the restaurant offers sweeping views of the
surrounding mountains, several fireplaces throughout the restaurant, high cathedral ceilings, and offers a large variety
of menu items for breakfast lunch and dinner. For dinner their shared a Southern Fried Chicken dinner that was so delicious
and fried to perfection. For breakfast they had the Pancake Breakfast Special. Portions at the restaurant are large and
prices reasonable. The hotel also has a small cafe called "The Bistro" that serves fresh coffee, latte, cappuccino,
espresso or hot chocolate and has pastries and snacks available 24-hours of the day. There's also a full bar and lounge
with flat screens and even a pool table.
While on their mountain getaway, if not relaxing by the fireplace at the hotel Ron and Carole spent alot of time
out in the crisp mountain air and enjoyed the panoramic views around the hotel. They also drove higher up on the
Mount Charleston Scenic Byway up to 7,700 feet elevation to the "Mount Charleston Lodge" where they also found snow and
even more breathtaking views of the Spring Mountains and Kyle Canyon below. The Mount Charleston Lodge also has a restaurant
that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also has log cabin lodging which they decided they would like to stay at in
the future with the kids and also tackle some of the trails that Mount Charleston has to offer. Check out all the photos from Ron and Carole's 21st wedding anniversary mountain getaway and all the scenic photos of Mount Charleston. If you're
looking for an escape and would like to stay somewhere different other than on the Las Vegas Strip, "The Resort on Mount
Charleston" is a nice getaway that is only 30 minute drive from downtown Las Vegas.

Pacquiao Marquez Weigh-In Event
Early Friday morning Ron, Nico and the rest of the gang
went to the MGM Grand Garden Arena to witness the weigh-in
event of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and
the current WBO lightweight titlist Juan Manuel Marquez.
Having gone to all the past weigh-in events, the gang
knew they had to get there early to be first in line and
got to the MGM as early as 7:30AM for the event that was
scheduled for 3:00 PM. As the hours went by the crowd
behind them grew to over 5,000 fight fans in attendance.
While waiting, Nico and the rest of his YouTube buddies
from "W3llYouKnow Films" paraded around filming their
vlog (video log) of the event as one of them wore a Pacquiao
look alike mask catching everyone's attention. (Click
here to view Nico's final edited version called Manny
Pacquiao.) Sometime around 12:30 PM the doors to the Grand
Garden Arena finally opened and the gang proceeded to
their usual section down below where they had a closer
view and opportunity to interact with the boxers and celebrities.
Once inside, one third of the arena that was sectioned off for the event filled quickly. Resident DJ for Top Rank Boxing
Justin Hoffman started spinning and scratching at the turntables and filled the arena with music to get the crowd hyped up
as everyone chanted and cheered for their favorite boxer. As the gang waited for the event, they interacted with a few celebrities
such as HBO personalities Max Kellerman, Emmanuel Stewart, Jim Lampley, announcer Michael Buffer, NBA player Jalen Rose,
Promoter Bob Arum, boxer Amir Khan, and many others. Finally 3PM rolled around and the live taping of the event that was
broadcasted on HBO and ESPN started and the fighters and their entourage came out for the official weigh-in. Both fighters
came in under weight as Juan Manuel Marquez weighed in at 142 lbs. and Manny Pacquiao at 143 lbs.
After the weigh-in event, some of the gang stayed behind
to participate in the taping of HBO's "24/7 Overtime"
that was scheduled to air that night. Ron, Nico and
the rest who stayed behind were in perfect spots in
the live audience as they sat directly behind the commentators
and in the view of the cameras that were taping and
were seen on TV. Click here to see all the behind the
scenes photos from this Pacquiao Marquez Weigh-In
event (and also check out Nico's vlog in the link above.).
The following night Manny Pacquiao went the distance
with Juan Manuel Marquez for the third time and retained
his WBO Welterweight belt winning the bout by majority
decision.

Nevaeh's 6th Birthday Celebration
Sometime last week Nevaeh opened a fortune cookie and
the fortune read..."Happy event will take place shortly
in your home." So on the eve of her actual birthday, the
family decided to throw her a little party at "Casa
de Poblete" with a few of her little friends from
the Children's Worship Service from church along with
some of the CWS Officers and held a "Movie Night" to celebrate
her birthday. Since it was a school night the party started
at 7PM with a buffet of pizza, pasta, and breadsticks
provided by Pizza Hut. The movie started at 8PM and the
feature presentation was the 2011 family comedy movie
"The Smurfs" starring Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris,
& George Lopez. Popcorn and nachos were also available
for the movie.
After the movie everyone gathered around to sing Happy
Birthday and watch Nevaeh blow the candles on her birthday
cake. Then her older brother Nico wheeled out her gift
from him and his sister Kiana which was a brand new
bike which she wanted to ride right away. The evening
ended up turning into a double feature movie night as
some of the guests remained for a second movie. Since
it was an older crowd, the movie chosen to watch was
the 2011 supernatural horror film "Insidious". Since
the movie was too scary for the younger kids they went
upstairs to play while the older ones watched and screamed
in horror. After the movie ended the clock struck 12
midnight and it was officially Nevaeh's birthday. Since
she was told she couldn't open her gifts until it was
officially her birthday, instead of going to bed she
immediately started ripping off the gift wrapping paper
off her gifts.
The morning of her birthday a was a small celebration
was planned with her classmates from Mrs. Bravin's Kindergarten
class. Ron and Carole took the day off to bring the
celebration to Roger D. Gehring Elementary School. With
cupcakes and a cooler of Capri Sun, they set up the
the little birthday party outside in the playground
area and waited for the kids to come out for recess.
Once the door opened the kids quickly ran to the tables
and the class sang Happy Birthday to Nevaeh. Then cupcakes
were passed around to each of the kids. After school
the day ended, an intimate family dinner was next at
the restaurant of the Birthday Girl's choice. Hoping
that she would pick a nice fancy restaurant, her choice
ended up being McDonald's and the family celebrated
over Chicken McNuggets. Check out all the birthday celebration photos from Nevaeh's
6th Birthday and thanks to all who came and celebrated
her special day with her and for sending all the text
and facebook messages.

Walk to End Alzheimer's
Since Ron and Carole started walking regularly earlier this year to adapt a more healthier lifestyle and still continue to
walk daily, they decided why not put their walking towards a great cause. So this past week they signed up for the
"Walk to End Alzheimer's" event and teamed up as "Team Poblete" soliciting donations from family and friends.
In doing so they were able raise a total of $265.00 for Alzheimer's reseach. The walk was held at the Fashion Show Mall on
the Las Vegas Strip. Registration started at 7:30AM and live entertainment, food & beverages and a Health & Wellness Expo
was held before the actual walk that started at 9:00AM. Before the start of the walk began, opening ceremonies took place
which was hosted by Fox 5 Las Vegas News Anchor John Huck and included guest speakers from the Alzheimer's Association,
former and current Las Vegas Mayors Oscar and Carolyn Goodman, and individuals who spoke about their dealings with family
members who suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. It was so touching to hear all the stories which brought more meaning to why
everyone was at the event and as well as more of an awareness about Alzheimer's. Ron and Carole's participation in the walk
was in memory of their good friend's father Frank Torres, Sr. who had also battled Alzheimer's.
As the walk began, participants proceeded on the walking
route which was a 2 mile walk inside the entire Fashion
Show Mall. They walked through the entire first floor
of the mall that lead them outside to the front of the
mall along Las Vegas Blvd. and back inside through the
entire second floor of the mall and back to the bottom
floor where the walk started. The sight of thousands
of people walking through the entire mall was definitely
a sight to see and many of them were cheering throughout
the course of the walk. The event ended with the giving
away of door prizes and gifts, just in time before the
mall and stores were open to the public. Overall partipation
in the walk was great but learning more about Alzheimer's
Disease and contributing to the cause was probably the
best thing about the event. Currently, more than 5 million
Americans have Alzheimer's disease
and that number is
expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. New
research reveals that lifestyle factors play a significant
role in protecting your brain as you age. You can reduce
your risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
by eating right, exercising regularly, staying mentally
and socially active, and keeping stress in check. By
leading a brain-healthy lifestyle, you may even be able
to prevent the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease entirely
and slow down, or even reverse the deterioration of
aging. Click here to see the rest of the
photos from this past Saturday's "Walk to End Alzheimer's"
event and a big "THANK YOU" to those who supported "Team
Poblete" and for giving their generous donations!

71 & 73 Years Old and 47 Years of Marriage
Every year on the 20th of October, the Poblete Family holds a double celebration on that date. It was on that day
71 years ago when Mama Pearlie was born. And on her birthday 47 years ago was the day her and Papa Rollie also got married.
This year the double celebrating continued as Mama Pearlie's Birthday and a few of her close friends got together
for a "Girl's Night Out" to celebrate her birthday at "Craw Island" in Chula Vista. They feasted over the Seafood Combo
Boil which consist of spicy cajun-flavored bags filled with shrimp, sausage, crawfish, clams, mussels, and corn. And for
dessert they all had delicious crepes with a special birthday crepe made especially for Mama Pearlie with birthday candles
on top. It was an evening of tasty seafood, laughter, and fun with all the ladies.
The following night the celebration continued with a family dinner at one of the family's favorite restaurants,
"Roberto DePhillippi's Steak House" (Formerly known as the Butcher Shop) in Chula Vista. Ron, Carole and the kids came down
from Las Vegas to join the celebration before heading up to Anaheim, CA for a Volleyball Tournament that the kids were
participating in. The family has been coming to this restaurant for years and usually to celebrate special occasions like
birthdays and anniversaries. So they all met at the restaurant and ordered their favorite cuts of prime rib which the
restaurant claims is the "Best Prime Rib in America". Like all celebration dinners it was a night of eating, celebrating,
and bonding with the parents, kids, and grandkids. After dinner Mama Pearlie and Papa Rollie took time to read all the
birthday and anniversary greeting that were sent on Facebook. Not being Social Media Users like the rest of the family,
they were surprise and taken by all the greeting and would like to thank everyone for taking the time to greet them on
their special day. A few days later it was Papa Rollie's 73rd birthday and the celebrating continued once again.
Check out all the celebration photos from both celebrations dinners and Happy 71st Birthday Mama Pearlie and
Happy 73rd Birthday Papa Rollie and Happy 47th Wedding Anniversary to you both.

Latest "Ron vs. Food" Adventures
Two new burger restaurants have recently opened and as usual, "Ron vs. Food" made time
to check them out to give a review to all his Foodie Fans. A few weeks ago the new
"Heart Attack Grill" opened in Las Vegas which was very controversial due to the
high-calorie and fattening foods they were serving. To see what all the hype was about,
Ron, Carole and the kids went to check out the restaurant for themselves and found it to
be quite a food adventure. Another burger restaurant that had also recently opened too was
the new "Fukuburger" restaurant in Los Angeles. It had been a year and 3 months since the
Fukuburger Truck debuted on the streets of Las Vegas and now through the help of restaurateur
Harry Morton, they've opened their first new brick and mortar restaurant in Hollywood. The
family also visited the restaurant during the weekend opening to enjoy the same burgers served
at their favorite food truck and to support their friends/Fukuburger owners Colin and Mags.
Read all about these two latest food adventures and see all the photos on the "Ron vs. Food" blog site.

Smokey Robinson in Concert
It was "Date Night" last weekend for Ron and Carole as
they went out alone without the kids to watch legendary
R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, and former Motown
record executive "Smokey Robinson" perform live in concert
at the Star of the Desert Arena down in Primm Valley,
Nevada. Since tickets were available there was no passing
up watching and hearing this legendary performer live
in person. And what a treat it was to watch as Smokey
backed by a 6 member band, 3 backup singers, and 2 backup
dancers still had that smooth voice and those slick dance moves from
way back during the old Motown days.
Smokey started the concert singing some of the classic
songs from The Miracles such as their first Motown #1
hit "Shop Around", "You Really Got a Hold on Me", "The
Tears of a Clown", "The Tracks Of My Tears", and "Ooh
Baby Baby". He also performed a medley of hits that
he wrote for "The Temptations" and other Motown artists
and also told stories about the good old days back at
Motown. He also sang a cover song of "I Don't Know Why"
which was made popular by Norah Jones that he also recorded
recently as well as old classic songs that he recorded
for an album called "Now and Then". Towards the end
of the concert he finished up by singing songs he recorded
as a solo artist such as "Being With You", "Tell Me
Tomorrow", and ended the show singing "Crusin" which
had the whole arena singing along. Click here for more photos from the
concert from this legendary song-singer who can
still perform and fill up concert halls and arenas even
at the age of 71.

Nevaeh's First Day of Kindergarten
Excited for her first day of school, Nevaeh woke up bright
and early and got ready for the start of the school year.
It seems like yesterday she was born (Click
here to go back to that day.) and now 5 years later
she sets out on a journey of learning and interacting
as she enters Kindergarten. So with backpack and all,
she jumped into the family's VW Eurovan accompanied by
her older brother Nico and Mom and Dad for the drive to
Roger D. Gehring Elementary School. As on any first day
of school, traffic was hectic but Nevaeh was able to reach
her classroom in time for the first bell at 8:00 AM. As
the kids lined up to enter the class, a few kids had tears
falling from their faces (as well as a few Mothers) and
Nevaeh questioned why some of them were crying? Not knowing
what to expect she bravely walked in the classroom and
sat at her assigned seat and smiled as she was left behind,
but with a look of curiousity as if she was wondering
what was to come.
After a few hours on this first day of class, Kindergarten
Teacher Mrs. Bravin dismissed her class for the day
and out came Nevaeh with smiles and carrying a poster
that she drew. "School is so fun!" she replied as they
left the school to head home. "I really like school!"
she uttered again. After a quick snack when she arrived
home, she was immediately found fast asleep on the couch
as she was pooped from her first day of school. The
excitement lasted the entire week as every morning she
would wake up early to get ready for school. But having
no concept of what a weekend was, she also woke up early
Saturday and Sunday morning excited to go to school
only to found out there was no school on the weekends.
Check out a few more photos from Nevaeh's exciting first
day of Kindergarten. Hopefully this excitement she has
for school will last throughout her high school and
college years.

San Diego Chargers vs. Minnesota Vikings
With the NFL players and owners dealing with and finally
resolving the NFL Lockout the past few months, the 2011
NFL Football Season is finally here. Last Sunday was the
first game and home opener of season for the San Diego
Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. Ron, Reesh, and Patrick
were able to get tickets to the game which was against
the Minnesota Vikings. So they got on the San Diego Trolley
at Mission Valley and rode the trolley straight to the
stadium to catch the pre-game warm ups and buy some
Chargers gear at the Chargers Team Store.
The game also happen to fall on September 11, 2011 which
was the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks
that occurred on 9/11/01. American flags were given
out to all who attended the game as they entered Qualcomm
Stadium and the pre-game opening ceremonies paid tribute
to those who lost their lives on that day. As the game
started the Vikings who won the coin toss received the
ball and on that opening kickoff scored a touchdown
and made the extra point to put them in a 7 to 0 lead
to start the game.
Despite the terrible start to the game and the lost
of Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding who was injured on that
opening play (and tore his ACL and will be out for the
entire season), the Chargers came back with runningback
Mike Tolbert making 3 touchdowns and the Charger defense
shutting out the Vikings in the 2nd half to win the
season opener 24 to 17. What a great start for the season
and a great way to kick it off by watching the game
live at the "Q". Click here to see all the photos from this year's Chargers
season opener and GO BOLTS!

Kiana and Nevaeh's San Diego Summer Vacation
For the past few Summers now since relocating to Las Vegas,
the Poblete Kids have spent their summer vacations down
in San Diego to get away from the Las Vegas heat and to
spend time with their family and childhood friends. This
year Kiana and Nevaeh spent their Summer down there again
but without their older brother Nico who had to stay behind
due to an early start for college and because of work.
So it was an "All-Girls Summer Vacation Trip" this year
and they got on their Southwest Airlines flight from Las
Vegas back to their hometown of San Diego (accompanied
by their Grandparents who were in town visiting).
With San Diego's beautiful climate, alot of their summer
vacation time was spent outdoors at the park, the pool,
the beach, the lake, camping in the backyard, or catching
a movie at night outdoors at the South Bay Drive-In.
This summer the girls also got to visit a few San Diego
tourist attractions. They went to the San Diego County
Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with their Uncle Rob,
Auntie Cynthia, and cousins. They spent a day at Sea
World and checked out the new attraction "Turtle Reef"
with their Uncle Jr, Auntie LeAnne and Mikki. They also
got to attend the family's annual trip out to Petco
Park to watch a San Diego Padres Baseball game (See
blog post "Padres Game at The Beach at Petco Park "
below). But when not out and about, the majority of
their time was spent with family and friends who they
don't get to see as often throughout the year. Check out all of the photos from Kiana and Nevaeh's San
Diego Summer Vacation. Although they've relocated to
Las Vegas, San Diego will always be home for this family
and it's always nice to come back home once in awhile.

STOP...Hammertime!
Music has always been a part of the Poblete Household and even the kid's genre of music is pretty broad as they've
listen to all kinds of music growing up. So as Ron and Carole got tickets to see rapper, dancer, and entertainer
"MC Hammer", it was a family affair to go see this 80's/90's icon perform live in concert. So the family headed down
to Primm, Nevada where MC Hammer was to perform live at the Star of the Desert Arena at the Buffalo Bill's Resort.
As they got inside the concert arena, you could not help but notice a few fans dressed up in MC Hammer t-shirts,
parachute pants, and even some dress in the same exact outfit that he wore in the music video "U Can't Touch This".
As the lights dimmed, the music started and Mc Hammer came out on stage with his back up dancers behind him performing
"Let's Get It Started" to start off the show. "Turn This Mutha Out" soon followed as Hammer continued the high energy
dancing on stage with his dancers as he performed his signature dance moves. Then the show slowed down a bit as they
performed the song "Have You Seen Her" as Hammer threw long stem roses to the female out in the audience. After the
song ended the lights went dark and once the music started up the lights beamed down into the crowd as Hammer appeared
on the arena floor making his way through the audience with his posse singing "This Is The Way We Roll" and
"It's All Good". Once back on stage Hammer continued performing his other hit songs such as "Pray", "Too Legit to Quit",
"Pumps and a Bump", along with some new songs. He also paid tribute to Tupac Shakur and Luther Vandross as he rapped to
his rendition of Vandross’s “Never Too Much.” and also gave a shout out to all US Navy Seals who had recently lost their
lives. Between songs he would tell stories of how he collaborated with other artist such as Tupac, Prince, and the
Godfather of soul James Brown. He also told the story how Paramont Pictures approached him to do a song for the
Addams Family Movie. As he performed "Addams Groove" he brought out his crew of street dancers who
amazed the audience with their cool popping and breakdancing moves.
Before the concert ended the dancers all went out on the arena floor inviting everyone to come up on stage for the big
finale. As the fans packed the stage the music started and Hammer made his way through the crowd to the front of the
stage performing his mega hit "U Can't Touch This" with all the fans dancing behind him. Hammer even went back out on
the arena floor towards the end of the song and paraded around dancing with the rest of the audience.

August Visitors and Shows
One of the benefits of living in Las Vegas is that it's a travel
destination for many who come here for vacation or to
attend a convention or tradeshow. And because of
this the family often spends alot of time with out-of-town
friends and family who come out to Vegas every week or
so from all over and usually meet up for dinner,
hang out at home or even catch a show on the Strip.
Earlier this month, Carole's sister Ellen from New York
flew in to attend a convention along with some other friends
from New Jersey. During their stay Ron and Carole brought
them to see Frank Marino's DIVAS Las Vegas show at the
Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino. Frank Marino who has
been a longtime Vegas headliner for the past 25 years
is a female impersonator who's show DIVAS Las Vegas portrays
famous divas including such celebrities as Britney Spears,
Cher, Madonna, Witney Houston, Dolly
Parton, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, and Beyonce. Marino
host the show as comic icon Joan Rivers and entertains
the audience with his humor and jokes inbetween the live
performances. New acts have recently been added to the
show as these female impersonators imitate more current
celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Rhianna,
and Lady Gaga. DIVAS Las Vegas is a very funny and entertaining
show and worth checking out. Click here to see photos from the show and be amazed how
much these male performers look and act just like the
famous female divas they impersonate.
Another visitor this month were family friends Wade
and Genelyn Vadney and their son Zack from Dallas, Texas.
While in town the family had dinner with them one night
eating gourmet hamburgers at the Fukuburger Truck one
night. They also got on the 11 o' clock news on Fox
5 News Las Vegas as the crew was out there filming a
news segment. Before leaving Vegas they had lunch at
the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino at the Cheeseburger
Restaurant in the Miracle Mile Shops with the Ron, Carole,
and the girls and also with new Las Vegas residents
Ka Noel, Myline, and Beau Simon who had recently relocated
to Las Vegas. It was a nice reunion over lunch catching
up as everyone was originally from San Diego and practically
grew up with one another. After lunch everyone proceeded
to the Saxe Theater at Planet Hollywood where they had
tickets to see The Magic and Tigers of Rick Thomas.
Magician Rick Thomas who formerly performed at the Sahara
Hotel had recently moved his show to the Planet Hollywood
Hotel. The magic show is very entertaining as he amazes
the audience with his tricks and illustions and his
comedy. It's a great show for the entire family. Check out the photos from the Vadney's visit and also from
the Rick Thomas Magic and Tigers Show.

Padres Game at The Beach at Petco Park
It was the last weekend of Kiana and Nevaeh's one and
a half month summer vacation stay in San Diego and Ron
and Carole drove down from Las Vegas for the weekend to
bring them back home. Since the family had not made their
annual trip out to Petco Park during this 2011 baseball
season, they made a last minute decision to get tickets
to see the San Diego Padres play the Colorado Rockies.
So last Saturday Ron, Carole, Richelle, Partick, and the
girls headed out to Petco Park for an afternoon of baseball
fun. After tailgating prior to the game eating hot dogs
and pizza from Costco (because they didn't feel like BBQing
there) at Tailgate Park, they proceeded to the Petco Park
entrance where everyone was given a Padres Rally Towel
which was the free giveaway for the night.
The seats that the family purchased for this game were
at "The Beach" which is a sandy play area behind a see-through
section behind the right-center-field fence that definitely
shows off San Diego's casual beach and outdoor lifestyle.
Probably not the best overall view to watch the game
but it's a cool section of the park where you can watch
the game right at field level from an outfielders point
of view. You also have the option to seat on the assigned
bleacher seats or sit on the grassy area in front of
your seats. It's the perfect place for families with
kids and toddlers who get to play in the sand with their
plastic shovels and pails, and occasionally throwing
around beach balls. Nevaeh spent most of the game playing
with the rest of the kids in the sand building sand castles and
playing with all the beach toys. There was even a cool sand
sculpture displayed of the Padres mascot in a plane
pulling a San Diego Padres sign. (FYI...Tickets for
"The Beach" bleacher seat section is only $10.)
The Rockies evertually won the game beating the Padres
10 to 6. But despite the Padres losing and still at
the bottom in last place in the NL West, it was a fun
family outing hanging out at the ballpark spending time
together and rooting for the hometown team. It was also
an opportunity to catch up with old friends Vince, Barbara,
and Angeli Marasigan who were also at the game and also
a chance to visit "The Poblete Family Brick" that will
forever be a part of the ballpark which can be found
at Palm Court Plaza. Click here to see all the photos
from this evening of San Diego Padres Baseball and Go
Padres!

Loews Lake Las Vegas Staycation
One last summer staycation was fullfilled as Ron and Carole
checked in at the "Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort" this past
weekend to accomplish one of Carole's goals which was
to stay at all the resort hotels at Lake Las Vegas. (Her
other goal is to stay at all the major hotel resorts on
the Las Vegas Strip.) Having stayed at both the "Viera"
and the "Luna di Lusso" hotels at the MonteLago Village
Resort and recently at the "Ravella Lake Las Vegas Resort"
(formerly the Ritz Carlton), the Loews Resort was the
only hotel left to experience staying at. And waiting
to stay at this resort last gives new meaning to the saying
"saving the best for last". The Loews Resort is probably
the most luxurious out of all the other Lake Las Vegas
resort hotels. The decor throughout this upscale resort
has a Moroccan desert oasis theme with beautiful courtyards
outside and cozy sitting areas inside. The rooms and suites
are very spacious and all offer beautiful sweeping views
of the lake and mountains.
Located about a mile east of the main MonteLago Village, the Loews is a close enough drive or walk to the main village of
Lake Las Vegas but far enough to stay away from most of the tourists who visit the village. Free shuttle service is
available for guests for trips to the MonteLago Village. But if you decide to just stay at the Loews Resort, there is
definitely plenty to do there for you and your family. The resort offers fine dining at the two restaurants on the property.
"Marssa" provides a Pacific Rim-inspired menu and "Rick's Cafe" offering American cuisine with Mediterranean influences.
There's also a coffee shop that opens every morning and stays open throughout the day and a lounge/bar that is open every
afternoon and evening which is right by the large courtyard overlooking Lake Las Vegas.
The Loews has 2 signature swimming pools, a private white sand beach, cabanas and offer water activities such as kayaking,
pedal boating, and canoeing to explore Lake Las Vegas. Kids would love the pool here at Loews because it offers a
waterpark-type slide that takes them to the kids pool and activity area at the bottom. The resort also has a spa and offer
spa packages, a state-of-the-art fitness center that is open 24 hours, and also provide other activities such as biking,
golfing, tennis, and even fishing. The resort also offers seasonal activities such as day camp for the kids and family
movie nights by the pool during the Summer weekends.
When often asked by some "what's a staycation and why waste your time and money taking them?" and the answer is simple.
Many people travel from far away for vacations here and stay at these nice resorts. Why not do the same without having to
leave town or travel far since it's right in your own backyard? You still get the same relaxed vacation feeling when you
arrive home but the best part of all is that you didn't have to travel far or spend as much money on gas or airline tickets.
So if any Las Vegas locals would like to plan a staycation for themselves or any out of towners plan on taking a Las Vegas
vacation in the near future,
check out the photos from this past weekend's staycation at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort and consider staying there
yourself. (For more info and photos of all the other Lake Las Vegas resorts, scroll down below to Ravella Resort at Lake
Las Vegas, or the New Years 2010 at Lake Las Vegas, or the 2009 Lake Las Vegas Staycation blog entries.)

HDNet Sunday Night Concert starring Smash Mouth
HDNet which is a television channel that exclusively broadcast
in high-definition stopped by Las Vegas on their summer
"Rock and Roll Road Trip Tour" to film another concert
for their Live Sunday Night Concert series. On this particular
night they came to film the alternative rock band "Smash
Mouth" and broadcasted the concert live. Ron and Carole
got to attend the concert which was held at the new Hard
Rock Cafe on the Las Vegas Strip. As they arrived the
HDNet satellite truck was parked outside the Hard Rock
and the crew was busy setting up for the concert. Since
it was still early Ron and Carole got to hang out at the
Hard Rock Cafe checking out the gift shop on the 1st floor
and all the rock and roll memorabilia that was displayed
throughout this 3-story building which is considered the
world's largest Rock Shop. They also grabbed a quick bite
to eat at the cafe which was on the 2nd floor.
As concert time rolled around they proceeded up to the
3rd floor of the Hard Rock Cafe which was the venue
for the Hard Rock's live concerts and performances.
The venue was intimate and cozy and was standing room
only for this concert that was to take place. On the
far side of the venue the stage was already set with
all the equipment and the crews were doing last minute
mic checks, lighting test, and camera operators were
getting ready for the start of the live performance.
Finally the lights dimmed and Smash Mouth took the stage
after a short introduction. Smash Mouth rocked the house
as they sang all their hit songs such as "Can't Get
Enough of You Baby", "Walking on the Sun", "I'm a Believer",
and a few songs from their new upcoming album. Before
ending the show they did a cover of Van Halen's "You
Really Got Me" (which was also a cover done by Van Halen
of the original song done by The Kinks) and had the
crowd jumping and singing along. As the crowd was
already pumped up during the end of that song they ended the concert with their
hit song "All-Star" which had the entire crowd singing
along. Being that the venue was small and intimate
versus much larger venues, the acoustics were fantastic
and it was a very fun concert to be at. Check out the all the photos from this night's Smash Mouth
concert and check HDNet for future broadcast of this
awesome concert.

The Ravella Resort at Las Vegas Staycation
Yet another staycation getaway was planned as Ron and
Carole checked in at "The Ravella Resort at Lake
Las Vegas" for Father's Day Weekend. Although it
was only a 20 minute drive or so away from Casa de Poblete,
Lake Las Vegas was still far enough to getaway for some
rest and relaxation. The Ravella located on the spot of
the former Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas Resort until
Dolce Hotels and Resort took over the property offers
outstanding personal service, premier cuisine, and lavish
amenities. The resort’s name “Ravella” is derived from
the picturesque coastal town of Ravello in southern Italy,
and inspired by the word “revel” which means "to take
great pleasure or delight." And what a delight indeed
as this Tuscan-inspired hotel resort sit right on the
waterside of beautiful Lake Las Vegas and the resort's
Montelago Village.
The Ravella features European-style furnishings throughout
the hotel and in the rooms. Oversized spa-style marble
bathrooms, upscale bath amenities and luxurious bed
linens can be found in the rooms as well as sweeping
views of the mountains, desert and the lake. The "Firenze
Lobby Lounge" in the hotel lobby provides guests a place
to relax or socialize over coffee or cocktails from
the open-air bar. In the mornings, complimentary coffee
or breakfast pastry are served in the lobby or in the
evenings you may find decadent desserts. The hotel's
restaurant the "Medici Café and Terrace" provides indoor
and outdoor dining and offers a breakfast buffet during
the weekends which was included
in the hotel package that Ron and Carole made reservations
for. "The Spa at Ravella" offered a full service salon
and also a fitness center where they were able to work
in an early morning workout before breakfast. Below
the spa and fitness center was a private beach lagoon
area and a resort-sized pool that even offered an outdoor
movie poolside for hotel guests that Friday evening
of their stay.
The neighboring Montelago Village which is just steps
outside of the Ravella Resort reminds one of a European
village with cobblestone streets filled with boutiques
and restaurants. The newly re-opened Casino Montelago
offers gaming as well as Harry's Bar and Restaurant
which is where Ron and Carole had dinner one night during
their weekend stay. And as you stroll through the village
you will find more restaurants to choose from and will
enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the lake and stunning
vistas. On Saturday Nights the village also provides
live "Jazz on the Lake" concerts through the
months of May until October. Bring a blanket or low
back chairs and sit outdoors and listen to some great
jazz while enjoying the warm summer night. Special deals
for the summer and for locals are currently being offered
at the Ravella
Resort as well as the Montelago
Village Resort.
So if you're looking for a nice weekend or Summer
getaway with your spouse or with the entire family and
don't want to deal with the hussle and bussle of the
Las Vegas Strip, drive out 17 miles east of the Strip
to Lake Las Vegas. Click here to see all the staycation
photos from this past Father's Day Weekend and check
it out for yourself. You will find that it's the perfect
getaway for some rest and relaxation.

He Writes the Songs That Make the Whole World Sing...
"He's been alive forever, and he wrote the very first song. He put the words and the melodies together.
He is music and he writes the songs..." Last week while family was still in town for Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday
Party, Ron and Carole got tickets for them to go see Barry Manilow's show at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. So
on that Sunday evening Ron, Carole, Papa Rollie, Mama Pealie, Kiana, Richelle, Cynthia, and Nevaeh headed to
the Vegas Strip to go watch "Mr. Copacabana" himself perform live on stage. After strolling through the
Barry Manilow Store that sold memorabilia and merchandise for all "Fanilows" to buy, they all headed towards
the Paris Théâtre and were each handed glow sticks and escorted to their seats.
Backed by a full band and background singers, Barry
sang his hit songs from the 70s and 80's like "I Write
the Songs", "Could it Be Magic", "Can't Smile Without
You", and "Mandy". He also paid tribute to his Grandfather
who back when Barry was a young child supported his
musical ambitions and during the show actually plays
a recording of a young Barry Manilow singing "Nature
Boy" that his Grandfather had recorded. The show got
lively as a segment of the show paid tribute to American
Bandstand that had Mama Pearlie and Nevaeh dancing in
their seats with their glow sticks. The 90-minute show
finally ended with Barry performing "Copacabana" that
got the whole theater on their feet waving their glow
sticks in the air to the rhythm of the song. Click here to check out the photos from the Barry Manilow
show at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and go see the show
for yourself if you get the chance. It's actually an
entertaining and fun show.

Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday Party
The day and time for Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday Party had
finally come. Although the traditional Filipino Debut
party which celebrates the coming-of-age of a young lady
as she turns 18 years old much like the Spanish Quinceañera
that takes place on a young lady's 15th birthday, Kiana
opted for an American Sweet Sixteen Party that marks a
coming-of-age of a young lady here in the United States.
So last weekend in the luxurious suite #1700 on the 17th
floor of the South Point Hotel Las Vegas, the room was
decorated, food and drinks were prepared, and everyone
got dressed in their party outfits for the start of the
celebration. As 7:00 PM rolled around, family and friends
started arriving looking their best. Everyone who was
invited were asked to dress their best as the party was
planned to be formal/semi-formal. Once the guests arrived,
Kiana welcomed them at the door and took photos with them
in front of her Sweet 16 Birthday background, which was
set up much like photo sessions taken by paparazzi's on
the red carpet at movie premieres and awards shows.
The 2,000 square foot suite provided panoramic
views for everyone to enjoy. Views of Red Rock Canyon
and Mount Charleston could be seen as the sun set to
the west. To the north the lights of the Las Vegas Strip
could be seen and to the east the mountain views towards
Henderson. As more guests arrived more photo taking
had taken place, hors d'oeuvres, finger sandwiches and
drinks kept everyone satisfied, and alot of games and
socializing continued throughout the night. But as more
people filled the room the temperature did get warmer
due to the amount of people in the room and poor
ventilation. But that didn't stop everyone from having
fun, especially those guests who came from out of town
who were reunited with old friends. Half way through
the night, Kiana's Uncle Junior and Auntie Daisy brought
up a special guest to the party who turned out to be
no other than Justin Beiber himself. Actually it was
a cardboard cutout of the pop star and everyone (young
and old) got Beiber Fever and they got to take photos
with him. Check out all the party photos from Kiana's birthday party.
Special thank you to all our family and friends who
came from near and far (and even those who logged on
the internet to view the live streaming of the party
online) to make Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday so special.

South Point Hotel Staycation Vacation
For months now the family had been searching for a hotel in Las Vegas where they can hold Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday Party and also a place that was reasonably priced for out of town family and friends to stay at. After narrowing down the options it was decided that the South Point Hotel and Casino would be the place. Located a few miles south of the Las Vegas Strip and just down the street from Casa de Poblete, the South Point Hotel was the perfect spot for a staycation vacation. Just 5 years old the hotel provided large spacious rooms and also had a 2,000 square foot luxury suite where Kiana's party was to be held. The hotel also had a nice pool area, bowling alley, movie theaters, buffet, and other restaurants and cafes so that guests don't have to leave the hotel. The first to arrive and check in for the weekend were the familys from San Diego...The Poblete, Papa, Torres, Bobis, and the White families.
Once everyone checked into their rooms they all headed down to the pool to cool off from the Las Vegas heat. After an hour or so of swimming and lounging by the pool everyone was hungry for dinner and got washed up and headed to the Garden Buffet inside the South Point Hotel. It was Seafood Night that night and the gang spent several hours eating crab legs, shrimps, oysters, and everything else the buffet had to offer. After dinner everyone retired up to their rooms for a night's rest while Nico and Tyler went bowling at midnight in the hotel's 24-hour bowling alley. The next morning some woke up early for breakfast or for their morning walk or exercise around the hotel while others slept in. At lunch time a few went down the street by the Las Vegas Outlet Center and had lunch at "Raising Canes Chicken Fingers" where they serve the best tasting chicken fingers around. Some others went sightseeing on the Strip or went shopping at the outlet stores while others stayed at the hotel to rest or relax by the pool. The rest of the afternoon was busy with preparations and setting up for Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday Party which was held that night in Room 1700 which was the luxurious suite on the 17th floor. The party was a big hit as everyone dressed up in their party outfits taking pictures and socializing throughout the night.
At midnight about 30 friends and family who stuck around went downstairs to continue the celebrating at the Coronado Cafe for a Post-Sweet 16 Party where everyone ordering the $3.95 midnight steak and eggs special.
Click here to see all the photos from this past weekend's South Point Staycation Vacation and stay tuned for blog and photos from Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday Party.

Movie Night/Mafia before Kiana's Birthday at Midnight
On the eve of Kiana's Sweet 16 Birthday, the family decided
to last minute invite a few friends over to hang out at
Casa de Poblete for an outdoor Movie Night in the backyard
prior to celebrating Kiana's birthday at midnight. Movie
theater food such as hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn was
prepared and the feature movie for the evening was the
thrilling paranormal teen romance science fiction adventure
"I Am Number Four". Movie Night however turned into Mafia
Night as Kiana and some of her friends gathered in the
living room to play the game Mafia. Mafia is a party game
where players are secretly assigned roles: either "mafia",
who know each other; or "townspeople", who know only the
number of mafia amongst them. In the game's "night" phase
the mafia covertly 'murder' a townsperson. During the
day phase, all of the surviving players debate the identities
of the mafia and vote to eliminate a suspect. Play continues
until all of the mafia have been eliminated, or until
the mafia outnumber the townspeople.
At the stroke of midnight someone started singing the
"Happy Birthday" song and everyone joined in as a birthday
cake was lit and brought out. After eating some birthday
cake the Justin Bieber "Never Say Never" DVD was played
and one by one all the guests started to leave. Probably
not because they weren't Justin Bieber Fans but it was
past midnight and also past everyone's bedtime. Check out all the photos from
this last minute Movie Night/Mafia Party and midnight
celebration as everyone brought in Kiana's Sweet 16
Birthday. Happy Birthday Kiana!

Field Trip to the Lied Discovery Children's Museum
This year's Memorial Day holiday was spent learning and exploring science, culture and arts as the family join other
families on a church field trip to the Lied Discovery Children's Museum. The museum has hundreds of exhibits providing
children and families with different learning experiences and hands-on interaction. Although the older kids thought it
was interesting, Nevaeh had a blast as she ran all over the museum from one exhibit to another. The first floor provided
exhibits such as the "Green Village" where there was a make-shift mini town that included a Smith's Grocery Store, the
Car Care Center, the NV Energy exhibit, the State Capitol, US Airways Airport Terminal, the Interstate Plumbing & Air
Conditioning exhibit, and a Bank of America. The Desert Discovery exhibit provided more interactive learning environments
to keep the kids exploring.
The second floor featured exhibits about science, communication, and technology. Visitors can witness science experiments
in Einstein’s Corner, be a radio DJ or sing to their favorite song, play a laser harp, experience wheelchair basketball,
launch a tennis ball into the sky, trick your eyes, enter into a hurricane, learn about food and nutrition and so much more.
Click here to check out the photos
of mostly Nevaeh exploring all the exhibits. She had so much fun running around
experimenting with each exhibit over and over that by the time she got home she fell asleep that afternoon and slept
throughout the night til the next day.

The Go-Go's - Ladies Gone Wild Tour
It was another concert date night as Ron and Carole headed
out to the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino for the start
of their Summer Beach Concert series at the Mandalay Bay
Beach. Throughout the months of May through September
the concert series will spotlight some of the best names
in music as they perform on stage over concert-goers who
are invited to bring their blankets and sit on the beach
or wade in the surf of this world-famous pool. To start
off the series the all-female 80's rock band "The Go-Go's"
kicked off the show who were also kicking off their 2011
"Ladies Gone Wild" tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary
of the release of their first album "Beauty and The Beat".
As the concert-goers filled up the beach, the stage lights
dimmed and the original members Belinda Carlisle, Jane
Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine, and Gina Schock
took the stage and opened the show with their hit song
"Vacation". All the ladies looked great and could still
rock out like they use to back in the 80's. Lead singer
Belinda Carlisle continued to lead up front and still
had the same dance moves. Jane Wiedlin was now sporting
a short haired blond look and Gina Schock was still awesome
on the drums. Bass guitarist Kathy Valentine was still
plucking away to their hits while Charlotte Caffey switched
from playing both guitar and keyboards throughout the
night.
The Go-Go's performed all their hit songs such as "Our
Lips Are Sealed", "Head Over Heels", "Turn To You",
"How Much More", and closed the show with their Top-10
hit "We Got The Beat", only to return on stage for an
encore performance. The concert was great and it was
a nice Vegas summer night to be outdoors enjoying great
80's music that brought back alot of memories for Ron
and Carole and the rest of the concert-goers. After
the concert they bumped into Ron's co-workers Sabas
Alonzo and his wife Nelda who were also at the show.
They also bumped into one of Ron's high school friends
Ray Chua and his wife. What a treat to hear some great
80's music while meeting up with a friend from the 80's.
Talk about "Blast from the Past". Click here to see all the photos
from last night's Go-Go's concert at the Mandalay Bay
Beach and check out these "Ladies Gone Wild" after all
these years.

Nico's Surprise Fukuburger Birthday
Nico's birthday is not until Monday May 23, but to surprise
him (and because some Christian group predicted May 21
will be the end of the world...not really and very unlikely)
the family decided to throw him a last minute surprise
birthday celebration, contacted his friends and told everyone
to meet at 9PM at their favorite mobile food truck, the
"Fukuburger Truck". So Ron, Kiana, Nevaeh and Nico (minus
Carole who was scheduled to work the night shift) got
in the family's Volkswagon Eurovan and headed down to
Chinatown on Spring Mountain Road in Las Vegas where the
Fukuburger Truck was scheduled to be at. Since the family
didn't have dinner yet, in Nico's mind it was just a quick
run out to grab a bite to eat. But as they arrived at
the parking lot behind the Bank of America building, to
his surprise he saw everyone there as they came up to
the van singing "Happy Birthday to You!" Yes Nico was
indeed surprised and had no clue what was happening.
To kick off the celebration, friends Colin and Mags
(owners of the Fukuburger Truck) surprised him with
a special burger ("Da Ho Brah" - A Fuku patty with fresh
grilled pineapple, macaroni salad, teriyaki, and wasabi
mayo), lit it up with a candle and lead everyone in
another rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song...Fuku
Style. It was a nice evening hanging out outdoors as
everyone ate their burgers under the stars and celebrating
til the midnight hour. Check out all the rest of the photos
from "Nico's Surprise Fukuburger Birthday Celebration'
and "Thank You" to the rest of the family and friends
for hanging out and making this last minute celebration
a success and to the Fukuburger Truck for providing
us great burgers throughout the night.

Ron's Birthday Boxing Party
To celebrate his birthday, Ron invited a few friends last
Saturday to "Casa de Poblete" to join in on his birthday
celebration. A special guest appearance by eight-division
world champion boxer Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao was to take
place. Actually he was to appear live on the big screen
for his fight between him and the challenger Sugar Shane
Mosley. Prior to the fight which was to be the main event
for the party, everyone was invited to come early for
dinner. Dinner was catered by "Famous Dave's Barbeque"
and the menu consisted of BBQ chicken wings, St. Louis-style
spareribs, Texas beef brisket, Georgia chopped pork (w/
buns to make a BBQ sandwich), potato salad, creamy coleslaw,
and Dave's Famous Fries. For those who weren't hungry
for BBQ, Filipino dishes such as kare kare and sinagang
was provided by friends Ely and Khit Dabu.
Once it got closer to the main event, the outdoor 10
foot high jumbo screen and projector was set up in the
backyard for those who wanted to watch the fight outside.
The large 100 inch indoor screen in the game room was
pulled down and the projector set for those who wanted
to stay indoors. For those who stayed outside, it was
a nice warm night with a slight breeze and everyone
grabbed a chair to position themselves for the main
event. After the national anthems were sung and the fighters
came out to the ring, the bell finally rung to start
the fight. Pacquiao dominated throughout the fight with
Mosley retreating most of the fight and was even knocked
down to the canvas in Round 3, for the third time in
his career. Pacquiao fell to the canvas too in the 10th
round which was ruled a knockdown but it was clear in
the replay that Mosley had stepped on his foot and pushed
Manny to the canvas. At the end of the fight, Pacquiao
was ruled the winner by unanimous decision.
After the fight a few friends stayed behind for the
singing of the "Happy Birthday" song and the
blowing of the candles on the birthday cake. There was
plenty of other cakes and desserts that was provided
by friends who came to the party. Click here to see all the birthday
party photos and thank you to everyone who stopped
by to join in on the fun and for the birthday cards
and gifts.

Pacquiao Mosley Weigh-In Event
Ron, Nico and friends met up at the MGM Grand Hotel last
Friday morning to attend yet another weigh-in event to
support the eight-division world champion Filipino boxer
Manny Pacquiao. He was scheduled to fight the challenger,
former WBA Welterweight Super Champion Shane Mosley who
has also won world titles in three weight divisions. The
weigh-in event was scheduled for 3pm but because of past
experiences at previous weigh-in events the gang knew
they should head out there early. So they met up at the
MGM Grand Hotel lobby before 9AM which early paid off
as they ended up at the front of the line with 8,000 fight
fans behind them.
After waiting in line for about 4 hours, the security
staff finally let everyone into the arena around 1PM.
Being first in line, the gang was able to get seats
close to the stage by the area reserved for media and
VIPs. With 2 hours to go before the actual event, everyone
in the arena was getting hyped up as the DJ played music
while everyone chanted for their favorite fighter, which
the majority in attendance were Pacquiao fans. Camera
crews made their way through the arena filming and interviewing
fight fans. The gang was filmed by ABS-CBN News and
was featured on the weekend news on TFC (The Filipino
Channel). They also got to see and meet other celebrities
that were present at the event. 3PM finally came around
and the announcer welcomed the fighters onto the stage.
The first fighter to step on the scale was Mosley who
weighed in at 147 lbs. Then Pacquiao undressed and stepped
on the scale and weighed in at 145 lbs. Check out all the photos from this Pacquiao Mosley Weigh-In
event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

A Night with Brian McKnight
Saturday night singer-songwriter, producer, and R&B musician
Brian McKnight held a concert at the Pearl Concert Theater
at the Palms Casino Resort. Ron and Carole had tickets
to see the show and met up with cousins Jay and Honeylette
and friends Henry, Ronald, Sarah, Will, and Jurel. As
they entered the concert theater, music was playing to
keep the crowd entertained while everyone was finding
their seats. Then the lights dimmed and two singers came
out on the stage and performed a song or two. The singers
were never introduced so the crowd really didn't know
who they were but it seemed they might have been a new
up and coming act who got the chance to open for Brian
McKnight. (Possibly someone Brian McKnight himself might
have been producing for.) After a short intermission for
the stage crew to finish setting up the stage, the lights
dimmed again and Brian McKnight took the stage.
Backed by a five member band, Brian McKnight sang most
of his hit songs. He also paid tribute to Michael Jackson
and sang his hit song "She's Out of my Life", imitating
the King of Pop's voice and dance moves at times. At
the beginning of the show, Brian's son Niko joined the
band playing lead guitar during the intro and also came
back out on stage in the middle of the concert with
his older brother Brian Jr. and joined their Father
in a rendition of the National Anthem which they also
sang together at the MLB Opening Day in Cincinnati,
Ohio last month. After the song, Brian took the bass
guitar and played while his two sons who also were in
a group of their own performed their own songs. The
whole concert was very entertaining as Brian told stories
in between songs, sang with the band or while playing
the keyboard or guitar. He also serenaded a fan who
was picked out of the audience giving her the "best
seat in the house" on stage right next to Brian
McKnight himself. She had been chosen because she had
followed Brian on Twitter and tweeted that she was at
the concert. By doing so, this lucky fan's name was
called out by Brian for her to join him on stage. Click here for all the photos of all the highlights from
this night at the Brian McKnight concert.

Sister Bonding Weekend
This past weekend three of Carole's five sisters came
up to Las Vegas for a weekend of "Sister Bonding". Since
Ellen from New York was still in the West Coast on vacation,
the sisters had planned to meet up for the last weekend
of her stay. So Timi flew down from San Francisco while
Cecile drove up with her son Marcel and Granddaugther
Erielle from Moreno Valley. Ellen drove up with Ron and
Carole and the kids from San Diego late Thursday Night
after they all attended Lola Ester's funeral. Since no
one gambles, it was a weekend planned for being together
and doing whatever else there is to do in Vegas...eat,
see a show, eat, go shopping, eat, go sightseeing, and
also eat.
The following day once Cecile and the kids arrived, they all went out to a lunch buffet at the Green Valley Ranch Resort.
Then after a short nap and rest after lunch, they went to the Tropicana Hotel Las Vegas where they had tickets waiting
for them to see NBC's America's Got Talent finalist "Recycled Percussions". During the show Ellen got her 15 minutes of fame
as she was picked to be on stage and actually performed in front of the audience with the band. The show ended just in time
for them to head to the airport to pick up Timi as she arrived from San Francisco. After picking her up they ended up at
Pho Little Saigon Restaurant for some Vietnamese soup and then returned to the Las Vegas Strip for some late night sightseeing.
The next day after staying up late at night talking
and after a lazy morning relaxing, they all got ready
for another lunch buffet at the Garden Buffet at the
South Point Hotel. To walk off their big lunch, everyone
went to the Las Vegas Outlet Center for some shopping
and also back to the Strip to visit the "M&M's World".
After a whole afternoon of shopping, Timi was dropped
off at the airport to catch her flight and Ellen, Cecile,
Marcel, Nico, and Ron headed to downtown Las Vegas to
attend the "Vegas StrEATS!" Food Festival
outside the El Cortez Hotel and Casino and hung out
the rest of the night at the "Fremont Street Experience".
Check out the rest of the photos from this "Sister Bonding
Weekend" and stay tuned for the next big party weekend
in Las Vegas coming this June. (Kiana's Sweet Sixteen
Birthday!)

Carole's Birthday continues at the Aria Hotel Resort
One of Carole's goals is to experience spending at least
one night at each of the big hotel resorts on the Las
Vegas Strip. (So far she's stayed at about one third of
the Vegas resorts.) So for Carole's birthday, Ron made
reservations for a night's stay at the new "Aria Hotel
Resort and Casino". After watching the "Matsuri" show
and before heading out to dinner (See blog entry below),
the family all headed to the Aria to check out the resort
and to check in to the room. When they got the key card
they headed up to the 21st Floor to the room and opened
the door.
They all stood there in awe as the dark room
automatically lit up with all the lights turning on one
by one. The flat screen TV turned on with a welcoming
Aria screen displayed and the music automatically played.
Then the curtains automatically opened exposing the beautiful
lights of the Las Vegas Strip and the City Center complex
below. The room had a contempory decor and the technology
in the room allowed you to control and customize the lighting,
room temperature, and music right at your fingertip. And
the floor to ceiling windows provided spectacular views
of the Las Vegas Strip or surrounding mountains.
The room was also packaged with two free breakfast buffets
which ended up being "brunch" for Ron and Carole the
next morning because they lined up late and ended up
staying through the lunchtime hour. After brunch they
walked around the resort to work off their buffet meal
and checked out the many amenities the resort had to
offer. They checked out the official store of "Viva
Elvis" which is the Cirque du Soleil show headlining
at the Aria Hotel and also walked out by the pool. They
also strolled through the adjacent "Crystals at City
Center" which is a luxury shopping mall and did some
window shopping at stores like "Gucci", "Louis Vuitton",
"Prada", and "Versace" just to name a few. Click here to see all the photos of this lavish hotel resort
and if you get the chance, go visit or stay at the Aria
yourself for a great luxurious experience. Also see the
next blog entry below and read about the rest of Carole's Birthday Weekend.

Carole's Birthday Celebration Weekend
It was five minutes before midnight this past Saturday Night and Ron, Nico, Nevaeh and the Ladrillonos (Jason, Imee and Alexa who were visiting for the weekend from San Diego) gathered in the kitchen at Casa de Poblete while Kiana was upstairs keeping her Mom occupied. The rest were preparing for the midnight celebration for Carole's birthday at the stroke of twelve. As the Kiana and Carole came downstairs and turned the corner, "Happy Birthday" was yelled out and the candles were lit on the small cake that was beside some birthday flowers on the kitchen counter. The celebration ended pretty quickly after the singing of the Happy Birthday song, photo taking with the celebrant, and the blowing of the candles because everyone had to wake up early the next day for Church.
So after Sunday church services, the family continued the birthday celebration and headed to the "Imperial Palace Hotel Las Vegas" to attend the "Matsuri" show. The word "Matsuri" is a Japanese word for a festival or holiday. So what better way to celebrate a birthday on this President's Day weekend. The "Matsuri" show is a high-energy show that mixes aerobic-like dance moves with acrobatic and circus-style acts. It mixes the skills of athleticism, Japanese culture, and light humor to create an entertaining show. The family had already seen the show two years ago but wanted to take their visiting house guests to go see it for Carole's birthday. But watching it a second time around was just as exciting as the first time as new stunts and skits were performed.
After the show they made a quick stop to the new Aria Hotel to look around and check in to the room reserved for Carole's Birthday. (See blog post above.) Then they all proceeded to the italian restaurant "Buca di Beppo" for Carole's Birthday Dinner. A table was reserved ahead of time for the family and Jay and Honeylette joined them as well as Auntie Precy who was in town visited from Dallas, Texas. The restaurant was perfect for a family feast as their dishes are served in big family-sized bowls. Orders of their house bread and calamari for appetizers, and fettuccine alfredo, baked rigatoni, chicken parmesan, and pizza were made to feed this hungry family. After the meal the waiters and waitresses came out to sing Carole a birthday song and presented her with a slice of celebration cake.
The next night the family continued the celebration and went to the "Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino" to watch and listen to oldies but goodies and motown music performed by three legendary groups The Coasters, The Platters, and The Marvelettes. Friends Ely and Khit Dabu come along to watch the show too which was performed live at the "Crown Theater and Night Club" at the Rio. The Coasters were first to perform on stage singing their doo wopping hits from the 50's and 60's like "Poison Ivy", "Yakety Yak", and "Charlie Brown". They performed with smooth, synchronized choreography to their comedy oriented song stylings which is why they were known back in the day as "The Clown Princes of Rock and Roll". After The Coasters sang their hit songs, The Platters took the stage singing all their hits like "The Great Pretender", "Twilight Time", "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", and "Only You (And You Alone)". Then "The Marvelettes were next singing "Please Mr. Postman", "Don't Mess With Bill", and some other motown hits from that era. It was a great night of great music to celebrate Carole's birthday.
Check out all the rest of the birthday celebration photos from this weekend and Happy Birthday Carole!

Donaire vs. Montiel
World Bantamweight Championship Title Fight
It was the weekend of the WBC/WBO "World Bantamweight
Title Fight" against the Mexican champion Fernando "KO-Chulito"
Montiel and the challenger Nonito "The Filipino Flash"
Donaire. Ron, Nico, and Jason and Imee (who came from
San Diego to attend the fight festivities) headed out
to the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino to witness
the weigh-in event which took place the day before the
scheduled fight. The fighters, reporters, and boxing
fans all gathered at the at the Mizuya Lounge where the
weigh-in event was held. There were other current and
veteran fighters present who attended the event such as
Antonio Margarito, Roy Jones, Jr., Marco Antonio Barrera,
and many others. There was even a Manny Pacquiao impersonator
present who was working the crowd who many thought was
the real champion himself and wanted a photo opportunity
with him. As the fighters for the main event took the
stage and stepped on the scale, both weighed in at 118
lbs.
The following day Ron, Jason, and Imee headed back out
to the Mandalay Bay Resort to watch the actual boxing
matches which took place in the Mandalay Bay Events
Center. As they arrived the undercard bout between Mike
Jones and Jesus Soto/Karass was about to start. The
bout went the whole 12 rounds and the winner by unanimous
decision went to Mike Jones. After that bout the fanfare
started to signal the main event. The first one out
to the ring was the challenger Donaire followed by the
champion Montiel. The crowd of 5,000 fans cheered on
as the flags of Mexico and the Philippines waved in
the arena. As the announcement of the fighters and the
official rules were given out, the bell rang to start
round one.
The champion Montiel stood his ground but the challenger
Donaire seemed more powerful as he was landing blows
left and right. As round two started, both
fighters exchanged more blows until a stunning left
hook and a right uppercut sends the champion Montiel
to the canvas and lands flat on his back with his legs
twitching. Montiel rises, but falls to the ground and
rises again. Donaire follows Montiel to the ropes and
lands a left hook. Then the referee waves an end to
the fight. Donaire wins by a second-round knockout.
Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire is crowned the
WBC and WBO World Bantamweight Champion and takes both
belts for the Philippines. And after tonight's fight,
some now consider him and the second ranked "pound for
pound" fighter, second to the "Pound for Pound King" himself,
fellow Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao. Click here to check out all the photos from both the weigh-in
and main event from this night in boxing history.

Nevaeh's Trip to the Circus
The circus was in town this past weekend. And just like her older brother and sister experienced when they were her age, Nevaeh had gone to the Big Top to experience her first circus show. Circus Vargas, one of the world's largest traveling circuses came to Henderson and set up the big top tent outside at the Galleria Mall parking lot. The show included the normal Ring Master, clowns, and all kinds of circus performers. But the one thing this circus show didn't have compared to the shows in the past was that there were no animals. No lions, tigers, and elephants were present unlike the past circus shows had when both Nico and Kiana attended. Protests from animal rights groups have hindered Circus Vargas to include the animals in the show starting this year. But despite it being a non-animal show, the circus performers were all very entertaining, especially for Nevaeh.
Before showtime, all the kids were invited to come down to learn and perform some circus tricks like hula hooping, juggling scarfs, and balancing feathers on their hands, head, and even their nose. Once the time came for the big show to start, everyone took their seats under the big top and the Ring Master welcomed everyone to the circus. The show included aerial acrobats, trapeez acts, daredevils, motorcycle acts and of course, the clowns. After the show, Nevaeh got to meet all the circus performers, got their autographs, and had a photo opportunity with them all.
Click here for all the photos from Nevaeh's day at the circus.
